One of my granddaughters often writes on her Facebook account that she is bored. I can't even remember the last time I was bored. As a matter of fact, boredom isn't even part of my vocabulary – anymore anyway.
I remember a time when I was bored, though. During that period of my life when I didn't have children or grandchildren, when I didn't read, when I didn't write except for myself, when I didn't crochet much, and when I didn't surf the world wide web, I was bored – always. Hard to believe for kids today, but the Internet wasn't around back then and blogging wasn't even a word.
Before I had kids, if I wasn't busy every single second of every single day, I became bored very easily.
Fortunately for me, my children, from the time they were born, have provided me with hours and hours of entertainment. I still delight at the funny things they do and say. If blogging had been around back then, I would never have been at a loss for material.
These days, much to my children's dismay, I blog about what they do and what they did when they were younger. I also blog about the antics of their children, and, when my grandchildren share funny things their kids say or do, I blog about my grandchildren's children.
The reason I never get bored is because I have so many things that interest me and that occupy my time – every day. If I didn't have so many hobbies and interests to keep me busy, I'd go crazy, and I'd rather be crazy busy than be crazy from boredom.
So I'm making it my mission to get Amanda, who has kids – two of them (a two year old and an infant), a hobby – or more friends willing to visit with her during the day!
Lucky for Amanda (actually, lucky for me) I'll be watching three of my grandchildren a couple of days a week not far from where she lives, so I'm hoping to help her with her boredom by seeing her more often. Maybe a Grandma visit once in a while is better than being bored all the time.
As far as a hobby for her is concerned, we'll have to work on that.

ReplyDeletelol, I am with you on this completely. I can not remember the last time I was "bored". :) One could only wish to have a boring day.
ReplyDeleteToday's kids expect to be entertained instead of entertaining themselves. And, part of it is learning to be content with being alone, being with just yourself. If you can't handle that, you're going to think you're bored. I'm an only child. It's rare that I feel truly bored.
